June 15, 2006 – John J. Sokolski has been appointed human resources director at the University of the Virgin Islands. He will assist UVI's vice president for administration and finance with achieving the mandates of Vision 2012, which is the university's strategic plan.
Sokolski brings a track record of setting and achieving human resources targets during a career that has spanned more than 20 years. He has consistently demonstrated leadership and technical expertise in the areas of human resource administration, operations and management, according to a press release from UVI.
He most recently served as human resource director for Crownpoint Institute of Technology in Crownpoint, New Mexico. He also directed human resources teams with firms such as KPMG and Honeywell.
With an academic background that includes a bachelor's degree in chemistry, an M.B.A. and a law degree, he also draws from more than 20 years of human resources best practices, many years of corporate and university teaching, and curriculum development in human resources.
Sokolski will be responsible for the management of UVI's Human Resources Department of the St. Thomas and St. Croix campuses. He will evaluate the university's human resources capabilities and make sound recommendations to correct, revise or maintain current business practices.
