I'd like to know whether the plastic bags used by the different shopping locales here on the island are the type that are made up mostly of cornstarch, that have such a lower half-life after use and break down so much more environmentally friendly than their alternatives?
While I think that reusing the shopping bags is a brilliant idea (when I was growing up in south america, the grocery store actually charged for plastic bags, it was the norm to use YOUR shopping bag in the store and to carry your items home in it!) I'd like to know that if /when people forget their bag, that the alternative plastics in the stores be of the more "green" sort.
