Teenager Dies of Gunshot Wounds

Aug. 3, 2006 — The Major Crime Unit of the V.I. Police Department is investigating the shooting death of Rumaine Mayers, a 17-year-old resident of Princesse Gade.
Mayers died Thursday at 2:30 a.m. after being shot Wednesday night.
Preliminary reports indicate that police were dispatched to the vicinity of Pile Strade at 8:38 p.m. Wednesday after receiving reports of a young, black male being shot. Police and emergency rescue teams responding to the scene found the victim to be suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Mayers was transported by ambulance to Schneider Regional Medical Center, where he underwent emergency surgery.
Mayers' death is the territory's 26th homicide of the year, the 15th on St. Thomas. On this date last year the territory had seen 24 homicides, 12 of them on St. Thomas.
Police urge anyone having information on this incident or any crime to contact the Major Crime Unit at hotline at 715-5544.
