Teachers Will Have Cost of Certification Courses Paid

Aug. 3, 2006 – The Department of Education will pay 100 percent of tuition costs and associated fees for one course at the University of the Virgin Islands for Fall 2006 for public school teachers in the territory. To qualify, current non-certified teachers must need no more than two courses to meet the Virgin Islands Board of Education's certification requirements and have no outstanding obligations with Education. Teachers who do not meet these criteria will be placed on a waiting list and will be offered this opportunity based on availability, according to a press release from Education Human Resources.
The selected class cannot be more than three credits, and because space is limited, courses will only be available on a first come first serve basis. Course textbooks are the responsibility of the individual teacher and reimbursement of tuition to the department will be required in the event of a failed course.
Interested persons are asked to visit the Division of Human Resources between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday, Aug. 7, through Friday, Aug. No phone sign-ups will be allowed.
