DLCA To Hold Taxi Medallion Auction for V.I. Veterans

Nov. 10, 2006 – Department of Licensing and Consumer Affairs Taxicab Division will hold its annual medallion auction for Virgin Islands Veterans of the Armed Services only, pursuant to the Virgin Islands Code.
The medallions, two on each island, will be auctioned to approved buyers on Monday, Dec. 18, on St. Croix at the DLCA's office in Golden Rock Shopping Center. On St. Thomas, the auction will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 19, at the DLCA's office in Sub Base, and on St. John the auction will take place on Wednesday, Dec. 20, at the Boulon Center, according to a press release from DLCA Commissioner Andrew Rutnik.
Bid forms can be picked up at the Taxicab Division's Office on St. Croix and St. Thomas during regular working hours for a fee of $10. All applications must be taken to the Veterans Affairs office for verification of eligibility. Veterans must walk with their DD214 separation document. All bids must be deposited in the bid boxes no later than 3 p.m., on Dec. 15. St. Thomas bids must be in by 3 p.m., on Dec. 18 and St. John bids must be in by 3 p.m. on Dec. 19. Bid boxes will not be reopened until the time of the auction.
The minimum acceptable bid is set at $8,000 for St. Croix and $20,000 for St. Thomas and St. John. A non-refundable ten percent down payment of the bid amount is required by 3 p.m. on the day following the auction. Forms of payment accepted are money order or certified check, made payable to: Government of the Virgin Islands Taxicab Division. The balance must be paid in like manner within ten working days.
