Tourism Department Claims Top National Awards

Dec. 8, 2006 The Department of Tourism recently won two national awards for excellence and creativity in marketing and communications, according to a news release from the agency.
The Tourism Department was selected out of a field of thousands for two MarCom Creative Platinum awards, MarComs highest, for work produced by the New York-based public relations firm M Booth and Associates. ("MarCom" is short for "marketing and communications.") The winning entries were for managing the impact of crime on tourism and for coverage received on "Good Day, New York" for a live broadcast from an event called "Americas Caribbean in the Big Apple," held at Grand Central Terminal.
"These awards are testament to our continued creativity and professionalism in the area of public relations," said Tourism Commissioner Pamela C. Richards. "Across the board, we have implemented strategic initiatives, and we are thrilled to be recognized for our achievements."
The award is a statuette created by R.S. Owens, the same craftsmen that produce the Oscar, the Emmy and the MTV Award, according to the news release.
MarCom Creative Awards is an international competition for marketing and communication professionals involved in the concept, writing and design of marketing and communication programs and print, visual and audio materials. Entries come from corporate marketing and communication departments, advertising agencies, PR firms, design shops, production companies and freelancers.
Winners were selected from more than 200 categories of media and communications, according to the news release. These included efforts in marketing, publications, marketing-promotion, public service-pro bono, creativity and electronic-interactive.
