Jan. 9, 2007 — The Crucian Christmas Festival Committee on Monday announced the winners of the Festival parades and the road march champions.
In the Children's parade, the St. Croix Majorettes won top honors in their category, and for floupes over 50, "Coming From the Orient" by the Alexander Henderson Elementary School captured the No. 1 spot. The best float was given to the Lew Muckle Elementary School for its rendition of "Celebrating our Heritage."
The Ricardo Richards Elementary School took double honors with its Pan Connection Steel Orchestra and mocko jumbies winning first place in their respective categories.
The Gentlemen of Jones swept away with first place for its "Pirates" floupe, while J&J Fun Troupe took first place in troupes over 100. Other winners included Lockhart and Associates, Sparkle Lite Twirlers, Guardians of Our Culture mocko jumbies, and the St. Croix West End Masqueraders.
The new road march champion is the World Famous Xpress Band, with its song "Bandana," which had crowds of people in the parades and j'ouvert waving colored bandanas high into the air.
