May 10, 2007 — Caribbean music acts such as Shaggy, Rayvon and Maxi Priest will bring the rhythm to Lionel Roberts Stadium June 9 at Rock de Tempo, a concert with an anti-violence message sponsored by the Tempo music channel.
Other headliners will include Shurwayne Winchester and Traffik, Tessane Chin, Etana, Pyour Passion, and Pressure and Cool Sessions Brass, according to a Tempo news release. Also present will be Tempo VJs and hosts, including Empress Jeanille, Your Island Girl Anushca, Hector, Jah Bami and the territorys Mr. Tempo himself, Frederick Morton, the networks founder.
As a special promotion for Tempos One Love pro-social campaign, Badness Outta Style, the concert will also feature a performance by the Rising Stars Youth Steel Orchestra, a pan group that targets at-risk youth from ages 10-18 as part of St. Thomas anti-violence initiative. Tempo will also continue its campaign by partnering with V.I. artists to create additional on-air public-service announcements promoting its position that there is no place in the Caribbean for violence, the news release said.
The weekends events will also include the winner of a guest-VJ contest, Show Us How You Rock Your Tempo, open to territory residents only and sponsored by Innovative Cable. The winner will be featured in Tempo programming filmed during the concert. To enter, submit a photo and 200 words explaining why you would make the best VJ for Rock de Tempo to rockdetempo@gottempo.com.
The concert begins at 6 p.m. sharp at Lionel Roberts Stadium. Tickets are on sale now for a discounted price of $35, but will go up to $40 on Saturday.
