Brief: Contaminated Bread Not Found in Territory

July 30, 2007 — None of the Sara Lee breads being voluntarily recalled because they may contain small pieces of metal have been found in the territory, but consumers are warned to be on the lookout.
The contaminated breads contain a "best if purchased by" date between July 25 and Aug. 7, 2007, and a code "222." The products came out of the Sara Lee Food and Beverage bakery in Meridian, Miss.
A news release from V.I. Licensing and Consumer Affairs said the department's Consumer Affairs Division scanned retail stores on all three islands over the weekend and did not find any of the recalled products.
The Sara Lee Web site says the products in question were distributed at grocery retailers in the following areas of the country: the entire states of Mississippi and Alabama, most of Arkansas, far southeastern Missouri, western Georgia, southwestern Tennessee, southeastern Louisiana and the panhandle of Florida.
If any local consumers should find they have purchased the breads in question, however, they are instructed to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
