Dec. 20, 2007 — Safety inspectors are poring over the traveling carnival rides in Frederiksted's Festival Village and have postponed opening the rides for business by one day. The rides will open Friday at 5 p.m.
"We want to announce to the public we are doing a very thorough inspection," said Melody Rames, St. Croix Festival Committee public relations officer, Wednesday evening. "Some government agencies did not finish their inspections and they must complete them before we open because safety is our number one issue. These rides are mostly for children and we are taking added precautions to ensure there are no shortcuts."
Rames said they had initially thought the rides could open, and by the time it was apparent the inspections would not be complete, it was already late in the day.
"We are looking forward to opening tomorrow and we hope everyone has a good time," she said.
Rames is also a writer and editor for the Source.
