Brief: Education Department Replaces Acting Superintendent

Jan. 11, 2008 — Come Monday, the Education Department will see some changes in its administration, with Lisa Hassell-Forde, the district's former insular superintendent, stepping into her new position as acting principal of the Jane E. Tuitt Elementary School on St. Thomas.
Taking her place as acting superintendent will be longtime Charlotte Amalie High School Principal Jeanette Smith-Barry, while Carmen Howell will step into the leadership position at CAHS, according to a news release issued Friday by Education.
No reason for the reorganization was given.
"It is my intent to have minor disruptions during the transitions and request the cooperation of all activity centers and school-based personnel during this time," said acting Education Commissioner Donna Frett-Gregory, according to the release. "There is an enormous amount of work that needs to get accomplished in improving our schools and educating our students."
