Arts Alive Presents the Pomeranz Jazz Quartet

Feb. 21, 2008 – The Felice Pomeranz Jazz Quartet will perform at 8 p.m., on Wednesday, March 19, to close out the Arts Alive Concerts in the Garden 2007-2008 series. Led by harpist Pomeranz, the quartet features Gary Lockwood on bass, Dion Parson on drums and Matt Marvuglio on flute, according to a press release from Arts Alive Concerts in the Garden.
Pomeranz, who has a degree in classical music, was the first person to receive a jazz degree from the New England Conservatory of Music and continues to teach there and also at the Berklee College of Music. She sits on boards of directors, teaches at summer harp festivals, founded a referral service for harpists, and arranges popular and classical music for the harp. Pomeranz has played throughout New England, Europe and the Caribbean. Her most recent CD, "Tomorrow's Dream," is available on amazon.com.
True to the eclectic tradition of his native St. Thomas, drummer Dion Parson embraces classical, reggae, calypso, jazz and other traditions. After completing his formal education at Rutgers University, Parson immersed himself in the jazz scene in New York, where he has played with the full range of top tier instrumental performers and vocalists. He has toured throughout Europe, Africa, Japan and the U.S. and recorded for several major labels including Blue Note, Verve, Sony and Columbia. In 2007, Parson assumed the creative directorship of United Jazz International founded by Branford Marsalis and Steve Coleman.
Gary Lockwood, who trained at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, is a teacher and performer. He has played with the best of the jazz world: Gary Burton, Johhny Hartman, Pharaoh Sanders, Dave Liebman, Eddie Harris and others.
Besides playing the flute with the jazz quartet, Matt Marvuglio is also dean of the professional performance division of Berklee College of Music. He is involved in academics, clinical teaching, composing and promoting. He has recently released a solo CD entitled "Why Cry" and his composition, "Simples of the Moon," is featured on the CD "Divinations" by Dean Anderson.
