Brief: V.I. GOP Caucus Slated for April 5

March 27, 2008 — The Virgin Island's Republican Presidential Caucus will take place on April 5, beginning at 10 a.m. The polling locations are at Gertrude's on St. Croix, BW Realty (Nisky Center) on St. Thomas, and the Appraiser's Office of Ellisa Runyan, Estate Fish Bay, St. John.
The Virgin Islands Republicans will be sending nine delegates and six alternates to the GOP National Convention Sept. 1-4, 2008, in St. Paul, Minnesota.
While the delegates to the GOP National Convention will be selected at the caucus, the party chair selects some aides to accompany the state delegation. Republican State Chair Herbert Schoenbohm has named Jabriel Simmonds Ballentine as a delegation aide.
Ballentine is son of Rosalie Simmons Ballentine and Krim Ballentine of St. Thomas, Schoenbohm said in his announcement. Raised on St. Thomas, he has a consulting firm in Washington, D.C. In January of this year he attended the Republican National Committee Winter Meeting as Schoenbohm's guest.
"I was so impressed by Jabriel's skills and knowledge of the political and convention process," Schoenbohm said, "that I asked him to be one of the two delegation aides to the GOP National Convention that I am required to pick."
