Sylvanita E. Smith Dies at 79

April 9, 2008 – We regret to announce the passing of Sylvanita E. Smith of St. Thomas, Virgin Islands on April 5. Mrs. Smith was a lifelong member of Christchurch Methodist where she attended the 6:30 a.m. service and was a member of class No. 10. She was also a member of the Christchurch Methodist Benevolent Society. She was 79 years old.
She is survived by her daughter, Laraine Smith-Niles; sons-in-law: Navarro Niles and Austin Harrigan; grandchildren: Lynelle and Cedelle Niles, Denelle Niles-Brown, James, Joi and Jewel Harrigan; and great-grandchildren: Jalik, Janei, Anthony and Ghislane Harrigan, Teiana Zeigler, Kailah and Jayden Riggins, Jordyn, Jelani, and Iyanna Earle. She is also survived by aunt, Esme Sylvanita Williams; uncle, Clarence Gumbs; brothers: Juanito Benjamin Sr., Eric Benjamin, Ivan Freeman and Roy Blake; sisters: Ena Powell, Marion Peters, Janet Gumbs, and Gladys Todman; special friends: Mavis Turnbull, Sarah Richardson, Erma Thomas, Gladys Jackson, Bernice Hodge, Esme Chinnery and Edris Callwood; as well as other relatives and friends too numerous to mention.
There will be a first viewing held at 6:30 p.m., on Friday, April 11, at Turnbull's Funeral Home. A second viewing will be held at 8:30 a.m., Saturday, April 12, at Christchurch Methodist (Market Square), followed by a funeral service at 10 a.m., at the church.
All funeral arrangements are by Turnbull's Funeral Home.
