Brief: Shooting Victim Found Near High School

May 18, 2008 — Police are offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of one or more suspects responsible for the death of Juma Ritter, whose body was found at 1:06 a.m. Saturday at a bus shanty near the St. Croix Central High School gym.
Ritter, who was in his mid-30s, suffered multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to Juan F. Luis Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
St. Croix Police Chief Thomas Hannah said police were also investigating a shooting in the Harvey Housing Community that occurred shortly after 10 p.m. Friday. Police do not know whether the shootings were related, he said Sunday.
“This homicide might be related to the earlier gunshots, but then again it might not,” Hannah said. “We are following up on all leads.”
Police are asking anyone with information to contact investigators at 778-4950 or dial 911.
