Police and emergency medical technicians found a black male on the sidewalk next to the basketball court who had been shot several times and was unresponsive, according to preliminary police reports. The victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene, had no identification.
The man was described by police as approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall, wearing a multi-colored striped polo shirt, long blue stone-washed jeans and brown shoes.
Police Chief Rodney F. Querrard, Sr. is asking the public to assist police in solving this murder.
"Usually around midnight, especially on a Saturday night, people are out and about in the vicinity of Smith Bay," Querrard said. "We are asking anyone who may have been in that area, or even driving by around that time, to please call the police with any information they may have. Sometimes the smallest piece of information could be the piece that solves a crime."
Responding to the scene along with Querrard were officers from Mariel C. Newton Command, Forensic Bureau and Major Crime.
Police are asking anyone who may know an individual matching the description of the deceased to call the Major Crime Unit at 715-5534, 715-5543 or the chiefs office at 715-5548, or simply call 911.
