Missing Teen Back Home, But No Sign of Couple

May 27, 2008 — A teenager missing on St. Thomas since last week has returned home, but police are still searching for Gerard Arthur Nicholas and Penny Louise January, who have not been seen since May 2.
Wade Hill Jr., 15, was reported missing last Friday after his parents realized he did not go to school that day and didn't return home. Wade's father advised police of his son's "safe return home" on Sunday, according to a V.I. Police Department news release.
"I am just glad he is home safe and sound," said district Chief of Police Rodney Querrard on Tuesday. "The entire department was concerned."
The case is still open, however, on Nicholas and January, missing for the past few weeks.
Nicholas, a 44-year-old farmer living in Estate Bordeaux, was reporting missing by his neighbors, who hadn't seen him for "a few days," according to a news release issued earlier this month.
"Neighbors said Nicholas told them he was going to take January — who arrived on island a few weeks ago — sightseeing before she returned to the States, and particularly mentioned an area where there is a steep cliff overlooking the sea," the release said.
After conducting a search, police found Nicholas' apartment intact, with no signs of disarray. A search of the area where the couple allegedly went sightseeing also did not turn up any sign of them.
Residents with any knowledge of the couple's whereabouts are asked to call emergency 911, the VIPD confidential crime hotline at 715-5507 or the Criminal Investigation Bureau at 715-5522.
