V.I. Students Chosen to Be World Ocean School Ambassadors

June 6, 2008 – Kai Bartlette and Nyisha Lewis, both 9th graders at the VI Montessori School, were selected to participate in the World Ocean School's Summer Ambassador Program. Among thousands of student applicants worldwide, only 16 students were chosen to experience this life-changing program.
Kai and Nyisha were also one of the few students who received a scholarship of $5,000 each. This was due to their dedication and strong efforts in community service and energy conservation in the Virgin Islands.
The students will set sail for three weeks, July 6-26, aboard the 137-foot National Historic Landmark schooner Roseway. The trip will begin and end in Portland, Maine. During the three weeks, they will be learning community building through leadership, communications, ethical decision-making and environmental responsibility as well as technical sailing and outdoors judgment skills. They will also serve as ambassadors of the World Ocean School in the communities they visit.
