June 18, 2008 — The Juan Luis Hospital Injectables stormed back from an early three-run deficit Tuesday night at the Renholt Jackson Sport Complex in Estate Whim to beat the Housing, Parks and Recreation Rebels 6-4.
Injectables pitcher Myron Johannes allowed four runs in the top of the first inning to the powerful Rebels lineup before settling down to shut them out the rest of the way.
It looked like it would be another long night for the Injectables, who were 15-0 losers in their last outing, as the Rebels' big bats sounded off in the top of the first inning to the tune of four runs, highlighted by a three-run blast over the center-field fence by Darwin Dowling.
The score would stay that way until the bottom of the third inning, when the Injectables finally plated a run on a Rebel error to trail 4-1 after three complete innings.
Things would quiet down again over the next couple of innings as both starting pitchers — Johannes for the Injectables and Vehilio Diaz for the Rebels — kept the hitters off balance.
While Johannes stayed on task for the Injectables for the rest of the game, his offense finally came alive against Diaz in the bottom of the sixth when the Injectables erupted for five runs to take the lead for good at 6-4. The Injectables started off the inning with back-to-back singles by Rashawn Foster and Johannes. Eustace Dave then came up with a third consecutive single to drive home Foster, and the comeback had started. Zara O'Reilly then singled home Johannes. After Roger Moore walked to load the bases, Kenny Milligan ripped the first pitch he saw from Diaz over the head of the left fielder for a base-clearing, game-winning double.
The rebels went quietly in the top of the seventh.
Johannes did well in shaking off a rough first inning to get the victory on the hill for the Injectables, while Diaz, who also pitched well for his team, got the loss. Top hitters for the Injectables were Milligan, 1 for 4 with three RBIs; Davis, 2 for 3 with one RBI; and O'Reilly, 1 for 3 with one RBI. For the Rebels, Dowling went 1 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs and Mckeel Rogers and Mervin Mill both went 1 for 3.
