Half the Battle Is Just Showing Up

Dear Source:
One of the biggest and most worrisome issues that Virgin Islanders are dealing with is the WAPA problem. It has become a heavy burden to the people of this Territory-as people scramble to pay their monthly bills…often having to forgo necessary food purchases for their families!
I read the report on the "PSC Asks Senate for More Power Over Wapa".
My first thought is to question this request, as like most citizens feel, the PSC has yet to prove that it has the Public's interests as a priority as the name "Public Services Commission" would indicate.
I would love to be wrong about this, but the past many years of PSC decisions has made me lose all confidence in their abilities and responsibilities to act "In the interest of we". Please help me understand how giving the PSC more power will change that?
Another important piece of this report, though, is that, once again, only Sen. Positive Nelson was present for the duration of this important Meeting!
As reported: "At the outset of the hearing, PSC member M. Thomas Jackson commented on the light attendance. Only Nelson was present for the duration of that hearing.
"I am a little perturbed today," Jackson said. "I am a private businessman and take offense that I am required to leave my business and be here today and so many of your colleagues who are paid for this are not here."
I often feel the same way as a citizen testifying for the needs of St. John.
Interesting, there was a Finance Committee Hearing for all St. John 501 (c) 3 organizations a week ago yesterday on St. John–and once again, the only Senator present for that hearing was Sen. Nelson. This is a sad commentary. The 501 non-profits do so much work for the Communities–often work that I personally believe needs to be done by our paid officials and Government.
I hope citizens are paying close attention to those Senators who are suppose to represent the people by attending Meetings that they are paid to attend.
The 28th. Legislature must consist of individuals committed to the work at hand. Please. There is so much work to do to unite and get our Territories working better for us all!
