Man Shot Near Simmonds Alley, Dies Hours Later

A St. Thomas man was shot early Wednesday and died that night, the 12th homicide in the territory since the beginning of the year.

The Virgin Islands Police reported that at about 4 a.m. Wednesday the man – whose name has not been released pending notification of his family – was shot at least once in the left leg while in the vicinity of Simmonds Alley. The victim drove himself to the downtown fire station to seek help.

He was taken to the Roy Lester Schneider Regional Medical Center by ambulance for treatment.

Police were notified Thursday by hospital officials that the man, 43-years-old, had died.

The fatal shooting was the seventh on St. Thomas since the beginning of the year.
