Police on St. Croix are investigating the death of an individual who was found inside a burned vehicle Saturday. The vehicle with the body inside was discovered at about 8 p.m. near the Ralph de Chabert housing community.
Police were called to a report of shots being discharged in the area and a report of a vehicle on fire. When officer arrived at the scene they observed the SUV engulfed in flames and the victim inside.
Police are still trying to determine if the shots that were heard were the result of the fire exploding combustibles in the vehicle. The exact cause of death of the victim will be determined by the medical examiner.
