Lakers Roll over Disciples in NBBA Monday Action

Lakers swing man Shane Hodge goes up for two.The Lakers outclassed a tough Disciples squad 69-60 Monday night in a New Breed Basketball Association contest played at Central High’s Ronald Charles Gymnasium.
The Lakers used a balanced attack to take command in the first quarter as they outscored the Disciples 21-15, and they were never seriously challenged again after that.
The Disciples continued to hustle, but they were playing one of the league’s better teams, whose defense clamped down in the second quarter to hold the Disciples to just nine points to lead at the half 36-24.
The Lakers started their bench in the third period, and the Disciples were able to be a little bit more competitive against that group. By the end of the third quarter, the lead was still 12 at 52-40.
With the starters back on the floor, an 8-0 run by the Lakers to start the fourth period quickly extended the lead to 20 before Coach Burke decided to called off the dogs and emptied his bench. This gave the Disciples a chance to cut into the lead, closing out the game on a 23-7 run, but they were never really a serious threat.
Nine different Lakers got into the scoring column, with Clint Williams leading three in double figures with a team-high 12 points while grabbing 10 rebounds. Robert Duck and Olani Vanterpool both finished with 11 points apiece for the winners. For the Disciples, Joseph Grant finished with a game-high 19 points, Robert Bailey dropped in 11, and Mikel Morgan had 10.
