Police Investigate Separate Arson, Robbery Cases

Police on St. Croix are investigating two unrelated cases that took place over the weekend, a first-degree robbery and a second-degree arson, according to the V.I. Police Department.

The arson and the robbery both occurred in Mt. Pleasant in Frederiksted.

Police, Fire Service and emergency medical technicians were called to a reported car fire just a few minutes after 11 p.m. Sunday in Areo Diaz Heights housing community. Officers said the vehicle was a red Ford pickup truck.

Firefighters on the scene said the fire seemed to be intentionally set. The owner of the vehicle did not identify himself at the scene. No injuries were reported. This case is under active investigation by the VIPD and Fire Service.

In a separate incident, a man told police he was robbed a few minutes before midnight Saturday near the Coconuts bar in the Paradise area.

The victim said he and a friend were standing outside the bar when two masked men approached them and said “give me everything.” One victim told the suspect they did not have anything, handing them $2. The suspects then fled the area and fired at least two shots into the air.

The victims said the suspects were wearing all-black clothing and black masks. They were both about 5 feet, 6 inches tall and of average weight, according to police.

The case is being actively investigated by the Criminal Investigation Bureau detectives.
