DPW Grants Contract to Rehabilitate Portion of Melvin Evans Highway

A construction contract has been executed for the rehabilitation and resurfacing of a portion of Melvin Evans Highway (Route 66) on St. Croix. The contract has been awarded to Virgin Islands Paving Inc. “The limits of this project are along the Melvin Evans Highway beginning from the intersection of Route 669 and 66 (industrial park intersection) to the intersection of Route 64 and 66 (east airport intersection). The duration of this project is one year and is scheduled to be completed by October 20, 2014. The dollar value of the contract is $5,078,000,” said Commissioner of Public Works Darryl A. Smalls.
According to a press release issued Wednesday by the V.I. Department of Public Works, single and full lane closures are expected to be undertaken periodically to facilitate the construction of the roadway. A Temporary Maintenance of Traffic Plan and updated information will be disseminated to the public whenever lane closures are scheduled. Motorists and other road users who utilize this highway will be asked to comply with the traffic control signs and the directions of traffic control personnel.
All efforts will be made to minimize the inconveniences experienced due to the construction activities resulting from this project.
