On behalf of a cruise ship tour group, St. Thomas Association of Roadrunners (STAR) will put on a 2-miler on the waterfront on Sunday, Feb 16. It will start as soon as the running passengers of the cruise ship disembark — hopefully that will be shortly after 8 a.m., but the exact time is not under our control.
The race will start next to Wendy’s in Mandela Circle and the turnaround will be across from the Windward Passage. Everyone is invited to participate although the prizes may be limited to cruise ship passengers. STAR will certainly recognize everyone’s effort in the official results. Come out for the fun of it!
Saturday’s race was the first Therapy Works Lovers’ Lane Two-Mile Walk/Run. It may become a STAR annual. The race circled Sugar Estate/Estate Thomas.
Lukata Samuel won overall in 12:00, now the course record. He was followed by Eddie Butcher. For the women, June Francis led in 22:48 followed by Juanita Rojas. Compliments of Therapy Works, there was no entry fee and all participants received T-shirts. Health workers were available to measure blood pressure, etc. for those who wanted it, and Dr. Alfred Heath made brief remarks about securing good health.
