School District Cleaning Up Alfredo Andrews after Fire

St. Croix District officials have spent the weekend cleaning up a classroom at Alfredo Andrews Elementary that was affected Friday evening by an electrical fire at the school.

St. Croix District Superintendent Gary Molloy said while cleanup continues, the small fire is not expected to have any impact on classes when school reopens Wednesday.

According to Molloy, the fire was sparked after water affected an air conditioning unit.

V.I. Fire Services investigators determined that foul play is not suspected.

District Maintenance Director William Matthew added Sunday that crews have been on campus since Friday, and are "working rapidly to restore all damages."

The District is still in the process of assessing the value of the damages, he said.

Molloy commended responders from V.I. Fire Services, Department of Property and Procurement, and the St. Croix District’s maintenance and asset teams for their continued assistance over the weekend.
