Visitor Dies at Honeymoon Beach

A man snorkeling at St. John’s Honeymoon Bay was found unresponsive and face down in the water around 11:30 a.m. Monday. V.I. National Park Deputy Superintendent Jayne Schaeffer said the man was a cruise ship passenger on a tour to the beach.

There was no further information available about the man other than that he was “70ish,” St. John Rescue training officer Bob Malacarne said.

He said the man was brought to shore by two men in a dinghy who found him floating in the water. Malacarne said the men performed CPR on the way to shore.

Malacarne said St. John Rescue pulled him out of the dinghy and, with the help an Emergency Medical Service staff member, tried to revive him.

EMS transported him to Myrah Keating Smith health clinic, Malacarne said.

Police Department spokesman Melody Rames said she had no further information.
