Gov. Kenneth Mapp announced Wednesday he has appointed former V.I. Fire Service Director Merwin Potter to replace Larry Boschulte as St. Thomas-Water Island Administrator. Boschulte resigned earlier this week.
Potter served as Fire Service director from 2004-06. Prior to that, he led a long history of public service in the Fire Service as a firefighter working his way up through the ranks over the course of 20 years to the position of fire chief for the St. Thomas-St. John District. He began working with the V.I. Fire Service as a firefighter in 1983. Potter has received many commendations and certifications from the USCG, the U.S. Department of Justice, Auburn University, National Weather Service and FEMA, according to the Government House statement, which said his knowledge and experience in emergency and community management will complement the position of administrator. “I am thankful for Mr. Potter’s willingness to serve in this capacity," Mapp said in the statement.
