VIPA Announces Non-Cash Policy at All Seaports Beginning Nov. 1

The Virgin Islands Port Authority Board (VIPA) of Governors approved a non-cash policy effective Nov. 1 for the authority’s marine division at its Sept. 22 board meeting. Cash will no longer be accepted at VIPA’s seaports. Users of its marine facilities have several options to pay port use fees:

 Contact VIPA’s accounting office at 774-1629 to establish an account with the Port Authority and be billed monthly; or

 Pay at the seaports using a debit card with a VISA logo, a credit card (VISA or MasterCard only) or pay via check. (Returned checks are subject to a $30 fee charged by VIPA, and any other fees charged by respective banking institutions).

VIPA will continue to accept cash at its seaports until Nov. 15 to give customers time to set up an account or obtain debit or credit cards to make payments.

For more information, contact Monifa Brathwaite, public information officer, at 774-1629 or MBrathwaite@viport.com.
