Mondelez Global LLC, the company which owns and operates Nabisco, announced Friday that it was voluntarily recalling certain Oreo Fudge Creme products, including from stores in the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.
The original and mint varieties of the Oreo Fudge Cremes contain a milk allergen, and that ingredient was not declared in the ingredient list, the company said in its news release.
"Mondelez Global LLC is taking this action out of an abundance of caution. Consumers may be informed about the potential presence of milk by an allergen advisory statement already included on the label (“Manufactured on equipment that processes milk.”) People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product," the news release said.
The ingredient is not a threat to people who do not have the allergy or sensitivity to milk.
To determine if a consumer has purchased the recalled product, the company advised that the recall applies to:
– The 11.3 ounce package of Oreo Fudge Cremes, Original variety, with the universal price code (UPC) of 0 44000 02694 3, with the "best used by" date (on the bottom left corner of the back of the package, of either: 19 AUG 16, 20 AUG 16, 14 SEP 16, 13 OCT 16, 14 OCT 16 or 17 OCT 16.
– The 11.3 ounce package of Oreo Fudge Cremes, Mint variety, with the UPC of 0 44000 02696 7 and the "best used by" date of either: 20 AUG 16, 21 AUG 16, 14 SEP 16, 15 SEP 16, 16 SEP 16, 17 OCT 16 or 18 OCT 16.
The company advised consumers who have this product to not eat it and discard any of the product they have. Consumers can contact the company at 1-855-535-5948, 24 hours a day to get more information about the recall. Consumer relations specialists are available from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Easter Time, Monday through Friday.
No other products are included in the recall, according to the news release from Mondelez.
