USDA Food and Nutrition Awards VIDHS SNAP $190,000 Bonus

The V.I. Department of Human Services’ (DHS) Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will receive more than $190,000 from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food and Nutrition Service (FNS). Commissioner Designee Dr. Anita Roberts received notification of this from the SNAP, USDA FNS Mid-Atlantic Region director regarding the performance bonus recently.

“I am very pleased to receive this notification as I have been made aware that our Quality Control division accepted its fifth consecutive national award by maintaining its number one rating in the nation,” Roberts said. “I know the unit is ecstatic about the bonus, which validates their hard work paying off.”

Patricia Dombroski of FNS said to Dr. Anita Roberts, “Congratulations to the Virgin Islands. We sincerely appreciate your leadership.”

According to the letter, FNS conducted SNAP Quality Control (QC) integrity reviews nationwide for a year and a half. FNS found practices that intentionally or unintentionally influenced the results of the QC system in many states; therefore, it was unable to release a national performance measure for Fiscal Year 2015. However, FNS found no bias during its review of the U.S. Virgin Islands’ Quality Control system; thus, allowing FNS to validate the V.I.’s reports.

“It’s exciting when I read that FNS thanked DHS QC for maintaining the integrity of the State agency’s QC system and operating within the federal guidelines,” Roberts said.
