Education Department to Launch Second Storytelling Academy in January

The Virgin Islands Department of Education – Division of Cultural Education (VIDCE) will be launching its second annual Storytelling Academy in January 2018. The academy teaches the art of cultural storytelling in the Virgin Islands’ local oral tradition and will be facilitated by master storyteller Yohance Henley. The program is free and will be held once a month in both school districts until May 2018.

The first session in the St. Thomas-St. John District will be held on Jan. 13 at the Jarvis Annex and in the St. Croix District on Jan. 20 at the Cultural Education Center. The times will be announced.

The program will also teach participants the history of cultural folkloric stories and increase their public speaking skills with opportunities to become a culture bearer.

For more information, contact Yohance Henley at Yohance.Henley@vide.vi or Valrica Bryson at Valrica.Bryson@vide.vi.
