One Dead, One Injured in Players Club Shooting

One man was killed and another injured early Friday morning in a shooting that took place at the Players Club in Diamond Crest Plaza.

Police said next of kin identified the deceased as 52-year-old Lloyd Canegata.

At 2: 37a.m officers were dispatched to a shooting incident at the club. At the scene the officers discovered a man in the driver’s seat of a vehicle. The man had sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body.

Emergency medical technicians at the scene attended to the victim but were unable to maintain any vital signs as he succumbed to his injuries.

Another male victim was transported by private vehicle to the Juan F. Luis Hospital. According to police the man had been shot inside the Players Club, sustaining a gunshot wound to his upper body. As of Friday afternoon he was being treated at the hospital for his gunshot wound injuries.

Police urged anyone with information on the incident to call the Criminal Investigation Bureau at 340-778-2211, the 911 call center or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-8477
