The Sharks once again showed once again why they are currently leading the St. Thomas Men’s Flag Football League standings, as they only needed three quarters Friday night before producing the league’s first mercy rule at Lionel Roberts Stadium.
It was an all-around effort, as the team scored on the game’s first drive and never slowed down, running all over the Canes. After the first score, they Sharks got an interception on the game’s next drive and took advantage of the short field, making the lead 14-0 very early in game.
After the Canes were able to move the ball into the red zone, the Sharks defense came alive, racking up back-to-back sacks and forcing a turnover on downs.
The offense scored on the very next play, as Julio Hodge took a handoff 75 yards into the end zone, making the score 26-0 at halftime.
The halftime break did not slow any of the Sharks momentum, as the defense made another interception to give the Sharks offense great field position. Cursim Hansen, who took over at quarterback for the injured Lon Garfield Jr., who was hurt in the previous week’s victory of the Archers, was able to find Corey Hodge in the back corner of the end zone for the game’s next score.
The Sharks’ defense added to the onslaught by forcing a safety on the next drive.
The mercy rule was put into effect after Julio Hodge was able to score once again after Hansen was able to find him in the open field.
The league commissioner, Francisco Jarvis, announced that the co-players of the game were Cursim Hansen and Julio Hodge for the Sharks, while Trey Donovan picked up that honor for the Canes after hauling in some nice catches.

In the night’s other game, the Dynasty looked poised for an upset win, which would have been their first of the season, after Geary Smith started the scoring incepting the ball and taking it all the way back. The two point conversion was converted making the score 8-0.
The Archers were able to respond quickly after scoring on a trick play, that ended with Kyle LaMotta finding Richard Clendenin for the touchdown. Clendenin also caught the two-point conversion, this time on a pass from Shaquille Richardson.
The deadlock did not last long as the next Dynasty possession, Malik Jno-Baptiste was able to follow some nice blocks on the left hand side of the field to score and give Dynasty a 14-8 halftime lead.
The Archers tied the game up late in third quarter and took the lead for good on a Richardson quarterback sneak with just over a minute left in the fourth quarter.
Action resumes on Saturday at Lionel Roberts Stadium with Sharks vs. Dynasty at 7 p.m. and then Canes vs. Archers 10 minutes after completion of the first game.
