Two Women Injured in Shooting Monday Night

A St. Thomas woman and her daughter were critically injured in a shooting in the Santa Maria community on St. Thomas’ west end Monday night.

The V.I. Police Department did not identify the victims, although sources described them as a well-known restaurant server and caterer.

Law enforcement sources said the victim and one of her daughters were struck multiple times in a hail of gunfire around 8 p.m.

Police officers and emergency medical technicians converged on the scene. Witnesses reported more than a dozen bullet holes along the driver side of the victim’s Acura sedan. About 45 minutes after the shooting incident was first reported, an ambulance was seen travelling along the waterfront en route to the Schneider Regional Medical Center under the escort of several police units.

Late Monday, one victim was being stabilized for multiple gunshot injuries and the other was undergoing emergency surgery. The victim’s social media page quickly filled with comments of shock, and prayers for her recovery.

Police officials had not released a statement about the shooting as of early Tuesday.
