STX Man Dies of Apparent Self-Inflicted Gunshot Wound

A Mon Bijou man, identified by police as 74-year-old Efrain Rivera, died Sunday, apparently of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

According to the V.I. Police Department, at 7 a.m. Sunday the 911 call center received a report of a gunshot victim. Officers from the Wilbur Francis Command responded.

At the scene officers made contact with the victim’s wife, who said she had gotten out of bed and walked into the living room, where she discovered her husband unresponsive, bleeding from his head, with a gun on his lap.

In the home, the officers observed an adult Hispanic male sitting on a chair in the living room with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to head.

A check of the surrounding area was made for any witnesses, suspects and evidence, but none were found.

The incident is under investigation by the Criminal Investigations Bureau.
