Governor Bryan Names Senior Staff, Sets Date to Announce Cabinet

On Wednesday, Jan. 9, Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. announced the individuals who will serve as his senior Government House staff; he has set Tuesday, Jan. 15, as the date to announce some of his cabinet members.

The newly sworn-in governor announced Transition Team Chair Karl Knight as chief of staff and Kevin Rodriquez as deputy chief of staff.

Knight is a former director of the Virgin Islands Energy Office and a public policy expert with experience advising the legislative and executive branches on energy and other policy matters. He is a graduate of Morgan State University.

Rodriquez’s experience is in human resources with over 24 years of executive experience, and he was the former director of personnel under the Turnbull/Richards administration as well as the director of applicant services for the Tennessee Human Resources Department. Rodriquez attended Jones College and Temple University.

Former Senator Sammuel Sanes will serve as administrator of St. Croix; educator Avery Lewis will serve as administrator of St. Thomas and Water Island.

Gov. Bryan also named longtime St. Thomas attorney David A. Bornn as chief legal counsel to the Governor and Richard Motta Jr. as Government House communications director.

Bornn attended All Saints Cathedral School; he is a graduate of Trinity College, Hartford, Conn. and Villanova University School of Law. Attorney Bornn has over 35 years of experience practicing in the fields of corporate and business matters, real estate transactions, wills, trusts, probate and government relations.

Motta most recently served as the district press secretary to Delegate to Congress Stacey Plaskett. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from the University of the Virgin Islands. He is a graduate of the St. Croix Central High School and a United States Air Force veteran.

Bryan has been meticulously reviewing resumes and interviewing candidates and is close to finalizing members of his cabinet. His nominations will be announced at a press conference planned for 3 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, at the Arthur Abel Complex (Old Danish School) in Frederiksted, St. Croix.
