New V.I. Veterans’ License Plates Now Available

A Veteran’s License Plate

The Virgin Islands Office of Veterans Affairs (VA) notifies veterans that the new veterans’ license plate is available at its St. Thomas and St. Croix offices. Plates will be issued between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Veterans’ license plates are free to veterans; however, they must pay for the registration process.

In order to receive a license plate, the veteran must be a registered veteran within the Virgin Islands Office of Veterans Affairs. If a person is not registered with the V.I. Office of Veterans Affairs, you must bring a DD214 showing proof of veteran status to the office. Veterans cannot receive their new license plates any earlier than one week prior to the month they are required to register their vehicle.

Once the month to register a vehicle has passed, the old veterans’ license plates can no longer be registered. This will assist us the VA in having all previous veterans plates off of the street by April 30, 2020.

In addition to being registered in the office, veterans must present the registration document that is about to be renewed. For those that are importing a car to the Virgin Islands, he or she must present proof of paying a road tax on the vehicle before receiving a set of plates.

As a reminder, each veteran is authorized to have no more than two sets of veterans’ plates registered in his or her name.

For further information, call the Virgin Islands Office of Veterans Affairs at 773-8387 in St. Croix District or 774-8387 in St. Thomas District.
