Crime Stoppers ‘Crime of the Week’

The anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, seeks the public’s help to resolve two arson cases that took place in the territory in recent months.

Double reward offered for 2016 Altona homicide
On Sunday, July 10, 2016, two 18-year-old men were killed and four others injured in a drive-by shooting in the Altona Lagoon area while a party was taking place.

According to police, officers from C Command Unit in Christiansted responded to a report of shots being fired in the Altona Lagoon area at 11:09 p.m. Upon arrival to the Altona Lagoon area, the officers found two lifeless victims, identified as 18-year-olds Malik Benjamin and Yahfari Brodhurst, both with multiple gunshots wounds to their bodies.

Crime Stoppers urged anyone who witnessed the homicide or has any information about the event that took place in the presence of so many who attended this party, “Don’t stay quiet. Say something.”

The police asked anyone with information about the shooting to call the Criminal Investigation Bureau at 340-712-6024, the 911 call center, or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.crimestoppervi.org or www.P3Tips.com.

$1,500 Reward for tip leading to seizure of weapons
“Residents of St. Thomas, St. Croix and St. John have been impacted with gun violence resulting in the deaths of young, old, men, women, children, fathers, brothers, sisters, mothers and it is time to take action,” Crime Stoppers said in this week’s Crime of the Week news release. “All lives should matter more than guns.”

The service is offering an anonymous $1,500 reward for any tips that lead to the seizure of any semi-automatic or automatic weapon.

Anyone with information on the Crime Of The Week cases can call Crime Stoppers USVI at 1-800-222-8477 (1-800-222-TIPS) or submit a tip online at www.P3tips.com or www.crimestoppersvi.org. Callers wlll be issued a confidential PIN and are encouraged to check back frequently for reward eligibility. Information leading to the resolution of a case can qualify the caller for an anonymous cash reward.
