Three Armed Men Rob STT Gas Station

Three armed men robbed a St. Thomas gas station early Wednesday, getting away with an undisclosed amount of money, the V.I. Police Department reported.

According to police, at about 2:58 a.m. Wednesday officers of the Richard Callwood Command and the Criminal Investigation Bureau responded to a 911 call of an armed robbery that took place at the Racetrack Gas Station and Convenience Store on St. Thomas.

The station’s security guard told VIPD detectives that three masked, armed individuals, approached the station. One, with a red bandana covering his face, approached him with a rifle-type weapon. He instructed the armed guard to put his hands up, then disarmed him.

The security guard said two more perpetrators, dressed in the same style clothing, entered the convenience store area. While being held at gunpoint, the guard saw the taller of the three suspects go behind the store’s cash register area demanding the cashier on duty place money from the register into a plastic bag, while pointing a weapon to the worker’s forehead.

The suspects made off with an undisclosed amount of cash, police said.

This case is classified as a first-degree robbery, and is under investigation by the Criminal Investigation Bureau.

Police urged anyone with information about the incident to contact the VIPD at 340-774-2211 ext. 5617, the Major Crime Unit at 340-714-9830, the Criminal Investigation Bureau 340-714-9807 or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-8477.
