The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (VIWMA or the Authority) reminds all business owners they must employ a permitted hauler or become a permitted hauler to dispose of their waste.
According to the law, it is illegal for any business to dispose of their commercial waste at public bin sites. All commercial waste must be transported to the landfills.
The Authority is authorized to issue permits for commercial waste collection and transportation, provided the applicant meets all lawful requirements. Failure to obtain a permit will result in a fine of $1,000 for each offense, imprisonment for up to180 days, or both.
To complete a permitted hauler application or to obtain a list of permitted haulers, call the Authority at 715-9100 on St. Thomas, 774-2141 on St. John or 712-4962 on St. Croix.
The way our local businesses dispose of their waste affects the beauty of the islands and the territory’s collective efforts to reduce its environmental footprint. To report illegal dumping, call the hotline at 844-WMA-USVI (844-962-8784).
For more information, contact the VIWMA Office of Communications Management at 513-4171 or email communications@viwma.org. Also, follow the Authority on Facebook, LinkedIn and/or Twitter.
