Sen. Steven D. Payne Sr. and St. John Administrator Shikima Jones-Sprauve held a Town Hall on Monday, Dec. 9, between the Virgin Islands Port Authority (VIPA) and residents of St. John to discuss various concerns pertaining to the reopening of the Enighed Pond parking lot.

The parking lot was officially closed on Aug. 12, 2019, for renovations and is scheduled to reopen on Monday, Dec. 16, with a parking fee of $10 per day. The use of the parking lot was originally provided to residents free of charge; however, the leadership of the Port Authority expressed the need to implement such a fee. According to VIPA, this fee is necessary to implement enhancements to the parking facility.

During this Town Hall meeting, Sen. Payne expressed his concerns regarding the proposed fees. He strongly supports lowering the fee to reduce the financial burden that this it will have on St. Johnians.
