STT Man Killed in Christmas Morning Shooting

At about 4:15 Wednesday, Dec. 25, a man was shot and killed outside the Banana Split Bar on Brookman Road on St. Thomas, the V.I. Police Department reported.

The victim was identified as 29-year-old Francois Champagne.

According to the V.I. Source homicide list, Champagne’s death was the 19th homicide on St. Thomas since the beginning the year, and the sixth since Saturday. It was the 40th homicide in the territory in 2019. The V.I. Source homicide list is based on police reports but, unlike the VIPD list and those in other media, does not include suicides or vehicular homicides, so the total number of incidents may vary.

According to police, the 911 call center was notified at 4:15 a.m. of a shooting outside the bar on Brookman Road. Officers dispatched to the scene found a man with gunshot wounds about the body. He was transported by ambulance to Schneider Regional Medical Center, where he died of his injuries.

Police urged anyone with information about the incident to call 911, the Criminal Investigation Bureau at 340-774-2211 ext. 5606, or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-8477.
