Head Start Launches New Online Portal Allowing Parents to Register Children

V.I. Department of Human Services — Head Start Program

During a time when it has become more important than ever to have the ability to do things remotely and online, the Head Start program has implemented a unique, online parent portal. The online tool allows parents to create a profile and complete the applications of family and children of Head Start into the program’s database.

The Child Outcome Planning and Assessment Software (COPA) is the computer-based, centralized intake process that Head Start will use to receive and applications. In compliance with the COVID19 precautions, this new parent portal allows parents to submit their family’s information without having to visit the Head Start office in person.

Benefits of Portal

The COPA online portal allows prospective and current Head Start parents to create an account, apply for services, upload verification documents, select classroom sites and receive feedback from the program about whether their child(ren) qualify for Head Start services. All parents will need access to the web (through a computer or phone) as well as a user ID and password, which are created the first time a parent accesses the site.

Steps to Access and Use COPA Parent Portal

  1. https://vihs.mycopa.com/familyPortal/childCare.epl
  2. Select preferred language (English or Spanish) by clicking on English or Espanol in the top right corner
  3. Click on ‘Register’
  4. Give consent
  5. Create a family and child profile

Questions for the Head Start office can be addressed at 773-1972 on St. Croix or 774-0930 ext. 4200 on St. Thomas.
