The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (VIWMA) Preserving Paradise team advises the St. Croix and St. Thomas community that green waste and seaweed will not be accepted at the landfills.

Haulers are reminded not to dump mixed waste at the landfill because green waste commingled with solid waste could cause fires.  Waste haulers are asked to follow the instructions of landfill personnel.  Failure to follow established landfill policies, rules and instructions of VIWMA personnel and its contractors will result in loss of disposal privileges.

The public and haulers are asked to hold green waste and seaweed until further notice.

The VIWMA Preserving Paradise team apologizes for any inconvenience that this may cause and thanks the VIWMA staff, contractors and the public for helping it put safety first.

For more information, contact the Division of Communications Management at 513-4171 or email communications@viwma.org. Also, follow the Authority on Facebook, LinkedIn and/or Twitter.
