Man Wounded in Hospital Ground Shooting

A St. Thomas man was treated for a gunshot injury after an altercation turned into gunfire Wednesday in Hospital Ground, the V.I. Police Department reported.

At about 8:30 p.m. July 1 the 911 emergency call center dispatched officers to the Roy Lester Schneider Hospital emergency room for a gunshot victim.

The victim, whose name was not reported by police in accordance with department policy, told the officers he had arrived at his residence in Hospital Ground and saw two males dressed in dark clothing sitting outside. The victim said one of the suspects approached him in a threatening manner and an altercation ensued between him and both suspects. The suspects assaulted the victim with a metal pipe to the head during the altercation, then shot him in the torso.

The victim was transported to the hospital via private vehicle for treatment and was listed in stable condition as of Friday afternoon.
