The V.I. Police Department on Friday arrested Kahlid Blyden, a 26-year-old resident of Caret Bay on St. Thomas, and charged him with possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute.
At roughly 8:06 p.m. Aug. 21, police arrested Blyden during a traffic investigation. While searching a vehicle operated by Blyden, police said, officers discovered a backpack with marijuana and a bag that contained an assault rifle.
Blyden attempted to flee the area on foot, according to the police report, but was quickly apprehended by officers.
Bail for Blyden was set at $150,000. Unable to post bail, he was turned over to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advice of rights hearing.
