The Virgin Islands Department of Health has ended its investigation of the unexpected death of a 41-year-old male on St. Thomas who recovered from COVID-19 five weeks ago. Health officials, after receiving an evaluation from the medical examiner and the department’s epidemiology division, determined that the death was not related to COVID-19.

As it stands, there have been 24 deaths related to COVID-19 in the territory.

People should continue to follow these precautionary measures: stay at home, practice social distancing, wear a mask when in the company of others outside of those in your household, clean frequently used areas thoroughly and wash hands often with soap and warm water.

To report a suspected case of COVID-19, call 340-712-6299 or 340-776-1519. If there is a medical emergency, call 911. For more information, visit www.covid19usvi.com. For COVID-19 updates, text COVID19USVI to 888777.
