Officers of the V.I. Police Department over the weekend arrested a man and a woman from St. Thomas and charged them in an assault that took place Friday in Hospital Ground.
According to police, the two people arrested are 23-year-old Katina Evans of Paul M. Pearson Gardens and 19-year-old Raquan Penn of Oswald Harris Court. Evans was charged with third-degree assault, damage to a vehicle, and disturbance of the peace by fighting. Penn was charged with third-degree assault, aiding and abetting, simple assault and battery, and disturbance of the peace by fighting.
The victim, whose name was not released by police in accordance with department policy, reported that Evans and Penn assaulted him in the Oswald Harris Court Community Center and damaged his vehicle around 6 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 5. The victim also stated that Evans attempted to stab him with a knife and used an electronic stun gun to assault him.
At approximately 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Evans was arrested by officers in the Oswald Harris Court community. At about 8:05 p.m. Sunday, Penn was arrested after he turned himself in to the police.
Bail for Evans and Penn was set at $25,000 each. Neither suspect was able to post bail, and both were turned over to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections, pending their advice of rights hearings.
